The desert festival is a three day fest which takes place every year in the quaint city of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer. It is one of the most colorful festivals of Rajasthan which is held in the month of February each year. Visitors can be the part of the beautiful display of colour, music and festivity which is one of the hallmarks of the culture of the serene Rajasthan. Folk culture is at its best display here as visitors get a ringside experience of this engaging culture and performances. Here one can witness some of the best folk artists dancing elegantly to the authentic tunes of the folk music. To add to the cultural ethos, are the Gair and fire dancers who will take your breath away with their acts. You can be assured of being surrounded by colourful costumes, the vibrant hue visible everywhere around you.

The other major attractions of the festival include snake charmers, puppet shows, and music
recitals by the folk artists and of course no desert festival can be complete without the ship of the desert – Camel. Apart from camelrides there are camel races, camel polo, camel dances are held as the local camels from Jaisalmer are known for their swiftness and agility.  A twist to the normal festivals is that you could be asked to judge entertaining contests like “who has the longest mustache?” The people with best moustache aregiven an award.

If the location is Rajasthan, can palaces and forts be left behind? During the course of this festival, the entire city of Jaisalmer sports a festive air and vibe, including the popular tourist must visit destination - Jaisalmer Fort.  This joyful festival of traditional Rajasthani culture and performing art and craft comes to an end with a captivating performance on the magical sands of the Thar Desert wherein one can sit in tents under the starlit sky and enjoy the magnificent sound and light show. This festival is an unforgettable memory, sure to stay with you forever.
